The Tattoo class was probably Kerr Stuart’s most successful product after the Wren. About 80 examples were built and under the Hunslet Company, both former and reconstituted, more have been built. The last Hunslet version was built as late as the 1960s and in the last few years, the reconstituted Hunslet Company have built more.

The Tattoo class was available in a range of gauges. The narrower were always outside-framed (with the exception of the Corris locomotive.) Usually, locomotives over 2’6” framed were outside-framed. The locomotive that we build was developed from original works drawings and works photographs.

As with all our products, we try, subject to the compromises needed to produce a durable working model, to reproduce the prototype.                                                                                                            Courtesy of Armley Museum, Leeds
